Description
The Encoder Strip for Canon PIXMA G Series is a precision compatible replacement timing slit strip designed for Canon G1000, G2000, G3000, G1010, G2010, G3010 and other supported PIXMA G-series ink tank printers. Canon identifies this component in its parts documentation as the FILM, TIMING SLIT STRIP, with part reference QC3-3935-000. The encoder strip is a thin transparent precision-marked film installed horizontally across the printer's carriage path. An optical encoder sensor on the moving printhead carriage reads the fine markings on this strip continuously while the carriage moves from side to side. This information allows the printer to determine the exact horizontal position and speed of the carriage so that ink droplets are fired in the correct locations. If the encoder strip becomes dirty, scratched, stretched, bent, creased, incorrectly positioned or physically damaged, the printer may develop symptoms such as shifted text, double printing, wavy vertical lines, misaligned graphics, abnormal carriage movement, carriage-position errors or carriage impact against the printer frame. Light contamination from ink mist or dust can sometimes be corrected by careful cleaning, but a damaged strip with scratched markings, tears or damaged mounting points should be replaced. The QC3-3935-000 strip is documented for the first-generation G1000/G2000/G3000 platform and is also widely cross-listed for later related models including G1010, G2010, G3010 and G4010.
